Talking Points | Hey, What's Your Shirt Mean?

When we hear the word redeemed, or when I do at least, I think of an arcade! We win tickets and redeem them for a bigger prize... in other words, we are taking these tickets and exchanging them for something even better! 

Or, maybe we think of the word "redeem" when we've done something wrong or not up to par. Maybe we rolled in late to work, but we "redeemed" ourselves by working super hard that day and staying a few minutes late.

But Christ -- Christ's redeeming us is SO MUCH BIGGER than any of these definitions! Jesus, who Himself led a blameless and perfect life, He TRADED His life for sinners like us! Though death, He redeemed us, He purchased us from the slavery of sin! Matthew 20:28 says "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Whew, what a tradeoff!
