Talking Points | Hey, What's Your Shirt Mean? 

Yahweh. Or YHWH (the Hebrew name revealed to Moses in Exodus) - consists of the Hebrew consonsants Yod, Heh, Waw, and Heh. In Hebrew, there are no vowels, so we plugged the "a" and "e" in to make Yahweh. 

Okay okay, so what does that mean? In the Old Testament, Yahweh is the self-revealed name of God 

Why does God care so much that people know His name? To know the name Yahweh means you know (and care about!) God's character. God revealed Himself as Yahweh to Moses at the burning bush, after Moses begged Him to send someone else to confront Pharaoh. Moses was basically like... who even are you to tell me this?! What is your name? He answered "Yahweh," which means "I am" or "I will be." This was the first time any human was revealed God's name. 

God's name - Yahweh - means he is and he will be. He simply is. He doesn't depend on anyone or anything else. He IS. He was, He is, and He forever will be.
